Slaying Dragons

Hello there and good morning to you and you and YOU! You made it through and have survived. Here in the USA 200,000 or so, give or take a few thousand (you have to have room for error and with numbers like this, .005% sounds about right at the time this was started). It is September22, 2020. First of all, no matter how those 200K died, they were still humans and mattered to someone. Maybe they do not matter to you, or the big cheese because they personally did not know him or perhaps they were old or they were fat or a minority with a pre-existing condition. Maybe they never watched his show. Maybe they were Democrats or Republicans, even better, right? I am ashamed, to see the thoughts of people that I know and love. People that I know have survived on Food Stamps, people that I know that may have used Planned Parenthood a few times in their lives. I know I have used those services and proudly raise my hand! Now we have men and women rushing to change the rights of women and well all Americans. Really, how many of these Senators have had to fix a misstep with an elective TAB? Don’t get me started, remember, I did a rotation in GYN surgery…I know that no one is perfect and if you were to throw the big cheese and Biden off of a boat and told them to walk on water, they would both sink. However, I think Biden would have enough sense to close his mouth and start swimming or ask for a life preserver, unlike his constantly, lip flapping opponent. November 3rd is nearing and I have made the decision to vote in person. I will not entrust my right as an American citizen, born in California in 1970 to the US Post Office. I have listened and researched, both sides, and as an ex-accounting professional, I need to know that I personally see my ballot placed in the box. I will go armed with gloves, a mask and sanitizer. I wear eyeglasses and will be wiping those down as soon as I leave the polling place. I suggest to anyone out there, get your disaster, or voting plan together. Either vote by mail now or plan to vote in person. Know that voting in person may take a little longer than in past elections so please remember to be kind to the election workers. One last thing as I almost lost it listening to Senator Mitt Romney try to educate America on the Constitution. Here Mr. Romney, incase you don’t remember the beginning of that sacred document which you are insinuating that you are basing your decision to vote on the replacement of a US Supreme Court Judge. I pasted it below for you to review. Dude, I see right through you, I think I dated you or the allusion of you, a few times. What are you going to tell America next? “Here baby, how ’bout a new Mac make-up concealer to hide that bruise?”…..

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

My apologies but as I was getting ready to start dancing on that soapbox, however, this is my diary and I do hope my daughter and grand daughters and even my grandsons learn about these issues in history. I was very vocal about human rights when my kids were growing up. Anyhow, this to shall pass. So, yesterday we took a drive to check out the Sky Art Sculptures of Borrego Springs. We have been through there a few times casually through out the suggestion when I found out Hubby only had one day off. He agreed and we were off on our adventure. It started around 8 AM September 21.

Our journey was a familiar one, we were just there last week but had only traveled south on SR-22 for a few miles and not anywere close to the San Diego County border as we passed it yesterday. Our first stop was to find a restroom in Borrego Springs! It was like a scene out of the movie Ground Hog Day as we went inside and asked the clerk where the restroom was and she said, “outside in back.” and pointed. We purchased a snack and beverage and headed out back, just as we did a few years ago and just as we did a few years ago we opted out of using their facilities. For anyone traveling to the area, the park in the center of town has a lovely restroom and very clean. I high recommend it if stopping there on the way to Julian or San Diego.

We drove down to the Anza Borrego State Park Vistor Center located at the base of the mountain. It was closed. We drove around a campground and made plans to come back when the weather is cooler to camp. Borrgo Springs is listed as an International Dark Sky City. This means they do their best to keep light pollution to a minimum to enhance to nighttime star viewing. Any chance I get to see a sky full of stars without the glare of city lights I will jump at so that adventure to come soon!

Hubby drove up this one road and it had this panoramic view of the desert. He pulled over and my heart started racing as the road was curvy and it reminded me of Highway 74 in the Santa Rosa Mountains. Cars were whizzing by. Hubby told me to look up and there were three falcons riding the wind. I got my camera out quickly and it was weird but one of the birds hovered closely over head so I could get the shot or so I let myself believe, makes a good story, right?

Look up!

The one bird came in pretty close, almost like it was used to getting photos taken. It circled for almost a full minute and then floated over the mountain with the other two birds. You really don’t realize how big they are till they are 10 feet from you and there wings are fully stretched out. Truly quite a show.

We headed back toward Borrego Springs to look for the sculptures. Currently, the sculptures are being relocated and the exhibits are closed. I did sneak a few photos as there were a few that were open. The 130 sculptures are the creation of artist Ricardo Breceda.

How I see the world.

I got on the ground and crawled around on the sand to get a few shots. It was really cool to see how much work went into each piece. The mouth of the grasshopper had intricate detailing as well as the wings. I even crawled under the anteater.

I have taken photos here several ties before and they always look the same. This time I took them from my point of view from what I want to see, not what I think people want to see. Plus, I was on one, just saying. Also I was trying out different setting and I filmed more using different techniques. Can’t wait to edit that.

Our complete journey lasted about 4 hours. We returned home around 1 PM. I was exhausted and quite honestly still am but gosh it was so worth it. I highly recommend checking out Borrego Springs for: Camping and stargazing and sightseeing. It is 29 miles from Julian and 28 miles from the Salton Sea so if you are good at planning one might pull off seeing all three of those places in one day! Me, that trip doesn’t excite me, no, no, no….

    Wow! I could only imagine how beautiful the sky of Borrgo Springs in the night. I suddenly miss the night sky in the mountain. One of the best night I saw was when my friends and I hiked a volcanic mountain called Lawu, in 2018 if I’m not mistaken. It was around 8 pm when I went out the tent, looked up at the stars and see the lovely line of milky way….


    1. I am sure that the people that live there do not see it the way I do or some one who sees it for the first time but the landscape and the mountains and the bluesky is just…wow! I can’t wait to go back at night,

      I will look for your bog post about the LAWU as I want to see the photos. ๐Ÿ™‚ I really do love star photography but am no good at it. Yeah I have only seen the Milky Way once when I went camping with Hubby in Joshua Tree and it was surreal. I just couldn’t figure out how to work my camera ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
