Low Places

Hello and good evening! It’s been a long week but a fun one. Today is April 10, 2021 and you have made it to see another sunrise, another day. Last week I started the 40 Miles in April walk for the American Cancer Society in honor of my sister who recently died and to Hubby who have survived colon cancer. I am happy to report that I have made double the amount that I had decided to pledge. Before I continue, here is a little listening music for this journey…please press play.

Get up everybody and SANG!!!!

Thank you, merci, danka, arigato, gracias for your generous donations! Every dollar will help a fund research so that maybe one day there may be a cure for cancer. Until then, organizations like these depend on the generosity and kindness of others. Speaking of kindness, it has been encouraging having a friend that I met through our blogs, along on this 40 mile journey, even though we are three time zones apart. There was one morning when I was just not feeling it and then my phone beeped and I looked at the message, it was the Under Armor app indicating that she had just finished a walk. So, I just couldn’t be a couch potato and I laced up my sneakers and headed out the door. There is still time to take the challenge!

Thank you to my sister that shared this but really, I only posted once on FB because of that accident!
Today is a good time to take it easy and rest.

Oh yeah, a few posts back I mentioned that I had started a “schedule” to keep myself on track so I don’t get so scattered. Happy to report that I have been sticking to it although I have modified it a bit. I added dance video tutorials every day during the week, instead of a few times a week. The UA app does not record the steps you make while you are doing a video but the Iphone indicated that one video is equivalent to a mile of walking! One morning I danced two miles, I was worn out, hot and sweaty but it was friggin’ fun! Also, I have been consistent in working on learning to play both the guitar and bass. If I had to choose one instrument, the bass wins. Hands down.

This is a Kala Bass Ukele

.

Taco Belle loves stuff especially shoes and anything on the floor.

One thing for sure is that learning the bass is quite a work out! I have viewed several videos for beginning students like me. I have watched videos on form, like how to stand and hold the bass. Every teacher has slightly different suggestions but they all get you to notice how you are standing or if you are slouching. One thing I noticed is that my brain was getting confused watching people play any instrument without knowing what a chord or key was or where to find them on the fret board. All my brain could interpret was fingers moving and now I can hear a note and call out a song that starts in that that key or call out a key while I am listening to a song and then go and play it , imitate it really, on the guitar or bass (now). This is how I learn, not in straight line but one that goes in circles and figure eights. Hopefully, all this will help me when I am out recording live music and taking photos. I still have that dream about being an entertainment photog but know that if it doesn’t happen, I am okay.

Half batch of brownies.

Spending time in the kitchen is something I will be adding to my schedule. Yes, it has been a chore to cook lately. Being that it is just Hubby and I, it is hard for me to get excited about cooking. I do get excited about reading what other people are making and eating. I view those with pangs of hunger and a little jealousy. I was and still am an adventurous eater, even though Hubby is not and that is okay. This means on the days that I cook something he may not (probably won’t) like he can order out and I can try something new. This week, I made something simple as I wanted to try out my new mini stand mixer. I had been wanting one for years, well the full size one but like I said, it just our bellies that we need to make happy.

Mini everything in my kitchen, even mini spring form pans. Hmmm, maybe a poster of Mini Me and Dr. Evil is needed for the kitchen? Oh oops, distracted again. Besides spending time in the kitchen, I have been hanging out in the garden. Every morning after I walk the pug, I spend time in the garden. Every morning there are new things sprouting. This year I had success growing tomatoes and can’t wait to pickle them or try them out in salsa recipes. Hopefully, one of the 5 pepper plants starts sprouting. I haven’t had luck with either peppers or tomatoes in a few years. This year I noticed (knocking on wood) that we have fewer bugs like the horned worms that destroyed most of my veggies and my cannabis plants last year.

One thing that I noticed since I started the walking challenge is that I have had time to work out ideas on my walks. I guess all the fresh air and getting my heart rate is good for the mind and creativity. I took my camera along on the walk yesterday and here are a few random shots that I took.

Onion flowers.
Future sunflower.
Future salsa!

Well, it is 8:39 PM on this Saturday evening and it has taken me all day to finish this and really I was not going to come here today. I guess I needed rest more than I thought. Also, what is up with WP? Really, is any one else out there having issues uploading photos today?

Well, look at that, I am going to hit post at a time that is not when I normally post. I used to get so caught up with staying on a schedule or trying to consistent, cause that is what all the other “experts” said. One day I just realized that, I am retired and this blog is just me telling my story and such and there really is no schedule to write or post. I do it when it is good for me. I no longer have to hustle, now I can relax and enjoy the rest of this ride we call life. Anyhow, a few weeks ago, Hubby and I were talking and I mentioned that I love our life and thanked him for being on this journey with me. We both laughed because we know that it is far from easy and there will always be little trial and tribulations. However, I guess all the work we are doing on the house has been good for both of us. I can’t imagine being with anyone one other than him. He is my biggest cheerleader and I am thankful. By the way, I am so looking forward to next week when he and the other guys play at the Tack Room Tavern in Indio!!!!

One last song before I end this. Here is a little sample of the Ghosts of Kelso! I just ordered a stabilizer so it should help the shakiness of the video. Next to figure out how to get a direct audio feed so i can get rid of the background noise…anyhow please press play…

Where ever you are and what ever journey you are on, may you get there safely. Hugs to you and you and especially YOU.

  1. No matter what time of day, your posts are always a joy to read Michelle. And I have to give you a lot of credit for all your energy and enthusiasm to learn new things, in spite of your health challenges.

I’ve not had much luck growing tomatoes or basil the last couple years, probably due to our excessive heat, and I’ve given up trying to grow any type of tomato other than cherry, as the larger varieties just do not thrive. So far, my cherry tomato and basil plants are doing well, though our weather’s already gotten way hotter than normal – which I fear is really our new normal.

    1. Hi Jeff!
Love this weather we are having! You are so right about the larger tomatoes. The sun is just too much for them. I have a large umbrella and I am constantly checking on them. Lucky you that you had lucky with the basil. Sounds like you have the beginnings of bruschetta 🙂 Thanks again for your kind comments and hopefully soon we can meet for coffee. I will be fully vaccinated in a few weeks.

I am completely in love with your perspective on things! You call your post “Low Places,” and nearly every photo is shot from the bottom up! You are so awesome.

I love that you tell Jim you “love your life!” This is the same thing I say to my husband, and it’s true.

Can’t wait to see more of the deliciousness you make in all your kitchen miniatures, and especially that future salsa. 🙂 ❤

    1. Ha Ha! I didn’t realize that, I just titled it because the song had come on. I went back and looked at them and laughed as you were right most of them were shot from the ground.

I am getting my kitchen ready. Still having issues with the oven, I think it needs a new fan. Waiting till July for a new one as the guy that installed the dishwasher said Home Depot appliances go on sale for 40% off and free delivery. I think I can wait till then 🙂

Good call on 40% off! Best Buy does the same. Major appliances are always on sale at the big holidays. You might start checking as early as Memorial Day so you can get busy baking!

      2. Good to know about the Best Buy. I will have to check it out. I do have my eye on this oven that has an air fryer setting and a five burners. Yes, more baking and hopefully I can master making bread 🙂
