Hello out there World! How are you? It is April 25, 2021 and you and I have made it to see another day. It is Sunday in the Coachella Valley and the weather is still perfect. I have almost completed the 40 mile challenge. After adding todays mile, I will have 7 miles to GO!!! It sure has been easy getting up in the morning and getting my sneakers on for both activities – a 20 minute or so exercise video and pug walk. Friday, I got my shot! I was expecting to wake up the way I went to bed the night of my shot, achy, tired and cranky and feeling blah. Happy to report, that side effect went away and I feel better than I did the day before. I figured that I would not be doing my usual exercise routine but nope, I felt great! Even though I am fully vaccinated, I will still adhere to pandemic protocols. Besides, I do love wearing the mask for my own reasons and love having space in these crowded times. Speaking of space, a rocket was sent to the International space station yesterday morning and it was cool to witness, even on TV. Space travel for us mortals is on the horizon, how exciting is that? Also, today is Hubby’s day, his birthday. If you celebrate the day with Hubby and you were born on this day, then “Happy birthday to you!”

The last week kind of flew by. Monday, Hubby took me for a drive through the Santa Rosa Mountains. We left early Monday morning when the sun is not to high in the sky and the color of the sky is a brilliant blue.

Even though we have traveled down this highway several times, I still marvel at the scenery. Lately, I had not been taking many photos as I just hadn’t felt anything. Maybe that is because I had been lost in painting. It never fails though that nature and all wonders can get my mind and creative juices flowing.

Here is a little background music for this road performed by Hubby during a break during a gig he played this weekend.

Hubby spotted a dirt road and we turned down it and drove till we got to a gate. The views were incredible. Sadly, I mainly took video down this road and will have not edited yet.

I have tried to capture that cow sign so many times as we whiz by it.

Even though we have traveled these roads several times, it still scares me. Honestly, I press the camera tightly against my face, like it is a security blanket. Even on some of the turns that are marked 35 mph it feels like the car is going much faster as I hold on for dear life.

On the way back down the 74 I asked Hubby if we could stop at the Look Out. I could stand there and look down on the Coachella Valley for hours…oh yeah…um…so I took a few photos and some video.

After that brief stop we got back on the road down. Hubby turned down a random street on the way down 74 (Monterrey Ave). I got excited when I saw that it was Cat Creek Road. Sadly, we saw no cats.

I have been doing much more walking this month than I ever do normally because of the 40 mile challenge. I am happy to report that I only have SEVEN miles to go! When I walk, if I am not using my walker, I walk looking down at the ground. Often I see odd things that might go unnoticed liked spare change, random chewed gum and trash. We were out walking Jenny when I spotted the hummingbird nest.

I made sure there was not birds or eggs in it.

I had only seen hummingbird nests by Googling them. It was amazing how intricately built it was.

There appeared to be shredded papers and even fabric woven into the nest. The entrance to the hole was covered in bird poo. Speaking of poo, the nest had the familiar smell of dog poo. I have not looked up how a hummingbird nest is built but I am assuming they have to use something to make all that stuff stick together. Thank goodness I did not touch it with my hands.

I am happy to report that I am having success in my garden. The tomato plant is full of fruit and I even have a bell pepper growing!

I had buried a few mini bell peppers in the garden and this plant appears to be a mini bell pepper.

Well, it is time to get on with this Sunday and Hubby’s day. I am ever so thankful that he is still here to celebrate this day because in 2015 he almost was not. It has been six years since he found out he had colon cancer and six years since they removed the tumor. I thank God everyday that he and I wake up, maybe because of this.

This was taken in Joshua Tree 2019.

To you dear reader, where ever you may be and what ever you may be going through, I pray that you make it through. If you are out traveling on this Sunday, may you get there safely. Hugs to you and you and especially YOU!

  3. The two of you are an adorable couple! Happy Birthday to Hubby/Jim, and congratulations on nearly completing your 40-mile challenge. I’ve been trying to walk a mile every day (but still can’t seem to lose a single damn pound!)

I love the Palms to Pines Highway over the mountains, and we try to take it on either the way down or back whenever we go to San Diego. It’s a wonderful drive to Idyllwild too.

    1. Aw! Thank for saying that. We are pretty happy together. Trust me, I have only lost eight lbs in the last two month so I hear you on that but walking is healthy.

I do like the drive even though it is scary. Funny, but I am trying to talk Hubby into a San Diego trip and I mentioned that we can take the back way.

Happy birthday to your hubby. Nothing’s more wonderful than having a quality time with your beloved one on your birthday. I bet he was really happy. πŸ™‚

This post explains the photo of mini tomatoes on your latter post. You are really good at gardening. I know maintaining a garden with many plants is not easy, as it needs perseverance and commitment. πŸ˜€

Have a nice weekend and stay safe, M! πŸ™‚

    1. Hey Ajo,

Speaking of quality time with your beloved, how is Madam? Have you two been on any adventures? Sorry I have been staying off the computer, been busy learning to strum.

I guess you are right about those tomatoes. Gardening has been relaxing and a great distraction as there has been so much going on in my immediate world, like my sisters death and such. I used to be a certified plant killer, really.

You stay safe as well. Have fun where ever you are πŸ™‚
